MORE ABOUT ZABS

The Zimbabwe Anti-Bullying Society (ZABS) is a child protection and disability-inclusion organization dedicated to building a Zimbabwe where every learner can grow, learn, and thrive without fear of bullying, discrimination, or exclusion.

We work with schools, communities, families, and policymakers to create safe, accessible, and empowering environments for children and youth—especially those living with disabilities.ZABS leads the national movement for reverse inclusive education, a transformative approach that designs learning environments around the needs of learners with disabilities first, then welcomes non-disabled learners into a system that is accessible, equitable, and enriching for all.

Our Story...

BRIEF HISTORY

ZABS was founded in (2014) in response to the rising cases of bullying, social isolation, and violence affecting children and young people across Zimbabwe. Many learners—particularly those with disabilities—were being pushed out of school, left unsupported, or forced to navigate environments that were never built with them in mind.

Seeing this injustice, we envisioned an organization that not only fights bullying but rewrites the structure of education itself. From awareness campaigns and community education, ZABS has grown into a leading voice for inclusion, accessibility, and disability rights. Today, we champion bold, innovative solutions that put dignity and equality at the centre of learning.

BUILDING SCHOOLS THAT FINALLY BELONG TO EVERY CHILD

Across Zimbabwe, thousands of children with disabilities are kept out of school—not because they cannot learn, but because the buildings themselves shut them out. Classrooms with steps, narrow doors, high windows, uneven floors, inaccessible toilets, and unsafe pathways create invisible walls that push children away from education and opportunity.Facilitators are not equipped to teach and manage children with special needs and employers are reluctant to employ youth with disabilities even though they are qualified.

Our solution is bold and transformative:
We build Reverse Inclusive Schools—purpose-built, fully accessible learning environments designed around the needs of children with disabilities first, then opened to all.We source and provide Assistive Technology

Your support helps us:

  • Construct classrooms with universal design principles
  • Build accessible toilets, ramps, rails, sensory rooms, and wide pathways
  • Install safe lighting, adaptive furniture, and barrier-free entrances
  • Equip learning spaces for low-vision, hearing, mobility, and neurodiverse learners
  • Create inclusive sports and recreation spaces
  • Provide safe, anti-bullying environments where every child is protected and valued

By partnering with us, you are not just funding infrastructure—you are breaking historical barriers, restoring dignity, and expanding a child’s future.
Brick by brick, ramp by ramp, your contribution builds a school that tells every child:
You belong here.”

OUR APPROACH

Our approach is grounded in:

  • Reverse Inclusion: Designing education environments (schools) around the needs of learners with disabilities first.
  • Rights-Based Principles: Every child has an equal right to protection, participation, and quality education.
  • Community Participation: We work with families and local structures to drive sustainable change.
  • Evidence and Innovation: Our interventions are informed by research, lived experiences, and continuous learning.
  • Partnership: We collaborate with government ministries, schools, NGOs, and international development partners.

EMPOWERING ABILITIES THROUGH THE RIGHT TOOLS

For many children and youth with disabilities, access to education and independence depends on tools they cannot afford: mobility devices, communication aids, learning technologies, and low-vision or hearing equipment. Without these, a child may sit at home, drop out, or struggle silently in a classroom that does not meet their needs.

Your support brings these life-changing tools into their hands.

Through the ZABS Assistive Technology Program, donors help us provide:

  • Wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, and mobility devices
  • Hearing aids, speech devices, and communication boards
  • Braille materials, low-vision tools, and screen-reading technology
  • Learning aids for autism, ADHD, and neurodiverse learners
  • Device repairs, maintenance, and user training
  • Assessments by trained specialists
  • Training for parents, teachers, and learners on how to use and care for each device

Assistive technology does more than help a child move, hear, or communicate.
It gives them:

  • Confidence
  • Independence
  • Access to learning
  • A voice
  • A chance to dream and choose their own future
